Complete review to be announced today for train ticket reform

Over seventy train ticket and rail fare systems are to be completely over hauled in a massive shake-up.

In one of the largest administrative reviews since the privatisation of the railway system the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) have announced that the current overcomplicated train ticket system will be replaced with a simpler one standard advance and three on the day specials will be introduced over the next few Months.

There are fears from many that the reform will see an increase in some train fares and the loss of many special cheap deals on train tickets that currently exist.

ATOC believe that the reform will not necessarily mean higher prices or loss of train ticket deals for rail travellers. The reforms have been introduced following the Governments white paper that was passed last year to help ease complications and misunderstandings they believed were occurring for commuters across the country.

Inline with reducing the amount of rail tickets that are currently produced ATOC have also introduced and simplified and a uniform set of terms and conditions to compliment the new ticketing system.

The new advance ticket will be available from May 2008 and the introduction of the day tickets will come together by September.
