Eurostar Staff to Strike
18.08.08 posted in Rail Travel and Industry News 2008
Cleaners employed by rail giants Eurostar have voted in favour of strike action on the forth coming Bank Holiday Monday following want they can disgrace over on going dispute over pay.
Over 120 staff employed by Eurostar and also members of the Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) have agreed to walk out for 24hrs on Monday 25th August.
The dispute over pay has been raging for a number of years and union chiefs are still eager to raise the basic rate of pay from current £6.37 level and there is also a dispute over the fact Bank Holidays do not attract any increase in the hourly rate offered.
Eurostar has and continues to be the shining star of rail travel so disputes like this only take the shine off that position. Over the August Bank Holiday weekend Eurostar is expected to transport over 140,000 passengers and the impact of not having any cleaning staff is yet to be seen.
