The Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) has announced that it will suspend the strike action planned for today, when it was expected that over 200 workers would have worked out from nineteen of the UKs main railway stations.
The strike was originally planned to last twenty-four hours and instigated to protest against a series of compulsory redundancies following a re-suffle in management structures by Network Rail.
The RMT announced that it would suspend the strike action following the unions AGM in Nottingham.
Network Rail is reported to have been prepared for the strike action which could have disrupted passenger services across a number of major city centre stations including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow.
Whilst compulsory redundancies do form the basis of Network Rails intentions following the management re-suffle they claim that large number would not be involved.
