A report from the East West Rail Consortium has concluded the £150m set aside for the proposed East West Link between Oxford and Milton Keynes is 'woefully inadequate' to fund the project.
The East West Rail Consortium is made up from a number of organisations including, local authorities, rail companies and the Ipswich Borough Council and was formed in 1995. The conclusion of the Consortium predicts a budget of between £190m - £228m is more realistic to complete the required elements of the East West Link and for the latter budget links to the Chiltern line.
The East West Link was promised as part on Rail Projectof the eco-town package promised by developer Parkridge. Their commitment includes the delivery of fifteen thousand new homes in the area and the rail system to service the new and existing community.
The Consortium is concerned that the rail project will hit brick walls unless more funding is put aside to support it.
