Cornish Passenger Volumes Set to Double
An investment of nearly £8m has secured a new development project on the Truro - Falmouth branch line that will see passengers services double from next summer.
Cornwall County Council has agreed the project along with Network Rail and First Great Western. The funding (£8m) has been provided by the County Council, Network Rail and a lions share of £4.67m coming from EU Convergence investment.
A passing loop will be developed next to Penryn Railway Station and will allow the two way movement of passenger service trains, effectively doubling the current volume.
The project will satisfy the current initiatives and expected increase in demand for rail passenger services along the route which includes Truro, Penryn and Falmouth.
